The SOMATEX^®  NEEDLE GUIDE is an instrument which achieves manual guidance of the needle without exposing the user’s hand to primary radiation. Additionally, this needle holder is made from a material which causes no artefacts in the image construction. The duration of use is shortened by the use of the needle guide – clearly reducing the radiation exposure for both patient and user.

The instrument caries out the following tasks, particularly in puncture:

• mechanically holds the puncture needle on its base
• mechanical fixing of the mandrin in the needle base
• extends the manual guidance of the needle to outside the irradiated area
• enables remote unlocking of the mechanical hold after the needle is applied in the target area
