Innovation Award for Cement Injection System CIS from Somatex
Somatex Medical Technology for Stabilizing Injured Vertebrae Awarded Again
Teltow, May 30, 2006. More than 200 companies presented their most innovative products to a jury in order to win the Innovation Award 2006 for the German Industry offered by the "Initiative Mittelstand". Meanwhile, the decisions have been made: The Teltow-based company Somatex Medical Technologies GmbH has won the second place in the "Medical Technology" category for its Cement Injection System CIS.

Somatex Medical Technology for Stabilizing Injured Vertebrae Awarded Again
Every year the "Initiative Mittelstand" (Initiative for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises) grants two innovation awards: during the CeBIT an award for information technology and during the Hanover Fair an award for the entire German industry. The awards are given to small- and medium-sized companies for products with an outstanding usability and functionality for small and medium-sized enterprises. In 2006, the Innovation Award for the German industry was granted for the first time.

"We are proud that our CIS was once again appreciated for its innovative technology," says Frank Kniep, General Manager of Somatex Medical Technologies. The CIS for treating damages caused by osteoporosis was specifically developed for the minimum-invasive method of vertebroplasty. It allows a very precise injection and dosage of special bone cement in an injured vertebral body to stabilize it. Already a few hours later, the patient is free from pain and is able to sit and stand up again.
